From porn to playstation, there is no doubt that visual reality plays a big role in the new technology revolution.

On August 1st back in 2012, a Kickstarter campaign for a virtual reality headset called the Oculus Rift was launched. It was the beginning of the new wave of virtual reality. This week, the final consumer Oculus Rift starts shipping out to buyers.

That´s a reason to celebrate.

Although it could be a while before they really take off, the release of the headsets is a major milestone for VR and a big day for the tech world.

Tharald Nustad, CEO of Plastilin, said visual reality played a big role on the SXSW event he attended recently.

– Virtual Reality was everywhere at SXSW. Aside from the dedicated VR plays like Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, Playstation VR and Samsung Gear, VR was used to promote products, music and film. The entertainment industry is getting into VR, with concert for music fans, sports experiences, and storytelling experimentations in VR starting to get better. Of course the porn industry is jumping into the game and had a few demos. And media is in, with New York Times having a Lounge dedicated to VR footage.

– Sony demoed its Playstation VR device and released pricing. HTC Vive had some great demoes, and Oculus has an impressive range of games ready for their release this month. Samsung has a whole lounge dedicated to their Gear that was quite popular. This is the year that the VR hardware is finally available for mass consumption. The content is starting to pop up, but this is still only the beginning, Tharald Nustad said.
